Singer Taylor Swift has ranked no. 1 on the Billboard Top 100 women artistes of the 21st century list. The 35-year-old beat stalwarts like Beyonce, Adele and Rihanna for the top spot. The music publication explained the singer-songwriter’s journey in brief and mentioned how she has often discussed the disparity between female and male artistes.
Other artistes that made the top 10 (in sequential order) were Rihanna, Beyoncé, Adele, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, P!nk, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys. Mariah Carey secured the no. 12 spot, while Billie Eilish and Madonna were at no. 16 and no. 36, respectively.
Born in West Reading, Pennsylvania, Swift began her career in 2006 with a song called ‘Tim McGraw’, which she co-wrote with Liz Rose, and was part of her first album, which was also named ‘Taylor Swift.’ Since then she has released 11 studio albums, 5 EPs and 4 live albums. Her 2014 album ‘1989’ is her most successful album, selling 14 million worldwide. Swift also has four re-recorded albums.
